Many of Apple Valley’s older neighborhoods still run on clay or cast iron sewer lines installed decades ago, and the High Desert’s shifting soil has had years to settle, crack, and offset the joints in those pipes. Once a crack forms, tree roots looking for moisture find their way in and make the damage worse, turning a small crack into a collapsed section or a persistent backup. A sewer line problem rarely announces itself clearly at first, showing up instead as a slow drain or an odd smell in the yard, long before it turns into sewage backing up into the house.
